Adult dogs participate in either our training program or our golden years program as described below.
Puppies receive puppy socialization, puppy culture, and begin to learn housetraining and sit.
Outrun dogs may have arrived via a pound, rescue, surrender or a veterinarian referral. Regardless of their origins, they all need a soft place to land and rebuild trust.
At Outrun we provide the training they need to take that step.
Our goal is to ensure that all dogs over the age of 6 months are well on their way to achieving a “Canine Good Neighbour” designation.
CKC Canine Good Neighbour Program
Outrun dogs and puppies are adopted with support from our certified trainers and behaviorists to help them settle into their new home.
A lifelong friend is worthy of our patience.
Outrun Adult Dogs are with us for an average 12 weeks. During that time the dogs stay first at our kennel to begin a training program, and then with a foster home who works on individualized training goals.
Prior to adoption, our adult dogs are;
*comfortable with a basic veterinary restraint
*have some basic obedience *are learning how to
walk on a leash.
All of our training is based on Fear Free methods and positive reinforcement is built into the program.
Please see our
“Get Involved!” page
for ways you can help us to sponsor a dog through their stay in rehab.
Some of our dogs arrive with pre-existing medical conditions that need to be resolved before adoption, this can mean a stay at our rehabilitation centre or months or years.
If you adopt a dog with a life long condition, you will receive the information you require to manage their care before they go home with you.
Our Outrun puppies have all been health cleared by a veterinarian, have received DAPV vaccines, Deworming, Flea/Tick Medication, and Microchips. They go home with a Spay/Neuter Voucher to help their new owners complete the requirements of their adoptions contracts.

Sometimes life changes and our beloved family members find themselves looking for a new home in their
Golden Years.
The dogs at Outrun who find themselves in our Golden Years Program are looking for a home who can provide the Long Term Senior Care they require. It is hard for all of us to get older and as we age, just like humans, our seniors sometimes need additional care.
The dogs in our Golden Years Program are not actively enrolled in the CGN Training Program that the younger dogs receive as they are often simply looking for a soft place to land.
Would you like to adopt a specific breed?
Did you know that "overstock" and minor medical issues mean that Outrun surrenders can come directly from breeders?
There is no commitment involved in submitting an application to Outrun even if you don't see the breed you're looking for in our galleries.
An Outrun volunteer will talk to you about what you are looking for. There is no judgement. Rescue work is not exclusively done for mix breed dogs.
You may end up "rescuing" the breed you were "shopping" for.
Just complete our application to get started with your search.
No matter what your looking for we'd like to help find the "right" dog for you.
If you are interested in adopting a dog from Outrun, we encourage you to complete an application here.
All applicants will be contacted for a phone interview.
No matter what your lifestyle is we would like to help you find the "right" dog. So let us know if you love water-sports, lunch on a cafe or hikes in the woods. There's a dog out there that will love sharing your passion with you.
Sometimes your newest family member is already at or Rehabilitation Centre or one of our foster home. Other times we find your furry friend through new intakes.
